Germaine's director, Ms. Gail Horvath, has a Master of Arts in
Foreign Language Education, from the Ohio State University, one
of the leading universities in language education. She is fluent
in several languages.
Prior to founding Germaine in 1981, Horvath
- taught on all levels of education, including eight years on
the college level
- received two NDEA language grants and one Fullbright scholarship
- trained as an ACTFL oral proficiency tester
- founded several AFS chapters and adult language clubs to promote exchange programs abroad
- organized Language Immersion Weekends and Cross-cultural Weeks
- designed and led several travel and exchange programs in Europe and Canada,
- lived and studied in Europe
Since 1981, she has:
- written four activity-based language texts for a major publisher, and designed training programs in ten languages, teaching many of the courses herself and training the other instructors
- designed and led or co-led a wide variety of cross-cultural programs for business and personal use on major regions and countries
- selected and supervised translators and interpreters, acting as project manager and/or translator/ interpreter
In addition to her work as director, Horvath has:
- been an active member of the Miami Valley International Trade Association, chairing a number of MVITA seminars
- presented sessions at International Trade Conferences and state-wide Foreign Language Teacher Conferences
